Game Recap

The Varsity Football team ended their season on Friday night with a 21-0 loss to the Viewmont Vikings.
The Cavmen battled tough with Riverton on Friday night, coming up just one point short of another victory.  The game was highlighted by two touchdowns from Dallin Lindsey, one on a 94 yard kickoff return and another on a 45 yard TD catch.  This loss drops the Cavemen to 5-5 on the year.  The Cavemen look forward to another chance to complete against the Viewmont Vikings in the first round of the state playoffs on Friday night.
The Cavemen Sophomore completed a perfect season, 9-0, after beating a stout Riverton team 21-14. Zach Katoa had two touchdowns, one coming on a strip from a Riverton running back. Jacen Condie completed a 1 yard touchdown to Kyle Baugh for the final American Fork touchdown. The defense came up with a huge stop in the 4th quarter to seal the victory. Congratulations to the Sophomores for winning the Region 4 championship!
In the final game of the JV season, the Cavemen went on the road to rout the Riverton Silverwolves 49 - 27.  The defense for the Cavemen peaked at the right time in a shut out over PG last week and started out the same way with a 3 and out on the first series for Riverton forcing them to punt.  The offense came on firing on all cylinders and never looked back.  The Offense moved the ball at will on the Riverton defense with a mixture of perimeter runs, interior gashes by the fullback and QB and perfectly executed play-action passes.  The first TD came on an outside sweep for 20 yards to FB Grant Taylor lead by physical perimeter blocks by all 3 receivers.  The offense went to on to score 3 more times with 2 rushing TD's and 1 receiving TD before the break.  Shayden Luker added the second TD with Fly Sweep around the outside and a nice juke to find the end zone.  The defense stopped 2 of the Riverton drives by causing two turnovers.  Brad Hill scooped up fumble and returned it 10 yards to set up the third score of the half. Ryan Parry scored from 4 yards out lead by precision blocking from the offensive line.  Shayden Luker had the second turnover with an acrobatic interception on the back side of a half back pass.  Shayden returned the INT to the end zone, but was called back for a block in the back penalty.  Chris Boone added the final score of the half catching a perfect 8 yard bullet on a slant route from Riley Smith.  The Cavemen lead 28 - 14 at the half.  The Cavemen picked up where they left off and scored on their first drive 2 minutes into the 3rd quarter on a 25 yard strike from Riley Smith to Brad Hill in the corner of the end zone in tight coverage.  After a long, time consuming drive the Cavemen got the ball back again.  On a third and long from the Riverton 45 yard line, QB Riley Smith connected on a play action pass with TE Chris Boone on one of the most acrobatic, one handed catches of the season to continue the drive.  You could feel the life fading from  the Riverton sideline.  The pair would hook up again on another acrobatic grab by Boone from 30 yards out to put the Cavemen up 42 - 21.  The score came with 6 minutes left in the 3rd quarter and would put the game out of reach.  Riverton mounted some offense, but it was too late.  2 of the Riverton drives where stopped by blanket coverage by Tyson Maag and Jake Bailey.  The Cavemen traded possessions with the Silverwolves on the next 2 drives.  The Cavemen punted late in the third and would be their only punt.  After a Riverton score, the Cavemen set up for an anticipated on sides kick with their hands team when Riverton decided to kick it deep to solo returner, Shayden Luker.  This proved to be a major mistake as Shayden put the dagger in the Silverwolves for the seventh score of the contest returning the kick off 85 yards untouched along the Cavemen sideline.  This was Shayden's third kickoff returned for a touch down this season.  The PAT duties fell on Alex Mortezazadeh and "General" Tanner Lee. The duo were perfect on all 7 PAT's putting the score 49 - 21 early in the 4th quarter.  Riverton added another score late in the 4th quarter but failed to convert on their PAT in what ended up being the final score, 49 - 27.  The Cavemen kneeled out 3 downs in a row with 1:32 left in the game to finish their season 7 - 2. In all, the Cavemen spread out their offensive attack with 7 different backs carrying the ball and completions to 5 different recievers.  All of that offense was anchored by a stellar performance from the offensive line.  There was only 1 negative play in the whole game for the Cavemen.  The Cavemen had a remarkable season and look to continue their success in post season play with the Varsity in the playoffs.  Thanks to all the parents of our JV players for your support!

The Cavemen rallied from a 14 point halftime deficit to beat the P.G. Vikings 17-14 in an overtime thriller on Friday night.  The Cavemen captured the momentum late in the third quarter when B.J. Eldredge found Dreden Snowden on the sideline for a 74 yard TD pass.  The defense then sent the Vikings 3 and out, and Dallin Lyndsey returned the punt down to the P.G. 20 yard line.  Tyler Belliston punched it in from 7 yards out to tie the game with about 11 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter.  The 4th quarter was a game of field position as Kyle Rusick's punts kept the Vikings deep in their own territory.  In overtime the Cavemen won the toss and played defense first.  They forced P.G. to kick a 46 yard field goal that fell short.  When the Cavemen got the ball, they got it down to the 20 yard line, and then turned it over to Rusick, who nailed a 37 yard field goal to give the Cavemen the win.  It was a great team victory.  The Cavemen head into the final region game with a 2-2 record in region, and 5-4 overall.
